How do you clean behind security screens?

If you have security screens on your windows and doors, you know that keeping them clean can be a challenge.

Dust and dirt can get trapped behind the screen and make it look dingy and unclean. Fortunately, there are some simple steps you can take to make sure your security screens stay in tip-top shape.

If you have standard security screens.

Step 1. Vacuum the security screen

The first step is to vacuum the security screens. Use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner to gently remove dirt and dust from the top, sides, and bottom of the security screens. Be sure to move the vacuum slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the screens.

Step 2. Wash the screens

Once you’ve vacuumed the screens, you can use a gentle detergent and water mixture to clean them. Choose a mild, non-abrasive detergent and combine it with warm water in a bucket.

Step 3. Wipe the screens down

Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the screens down. Be sure to rinse the cloth often to avoid streaking. Once you’ve finished cleaning the security screens, use a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture. This will help prevent water damage and keep your security screens looking great.

Step 4 (Optional) Use a mild window cleaner

Finally, you can use a mild window cleaner to give the screens a glossy finish. Spray the cleaner onto a cloth and wipe down the screens. Be sure to avoid spraying the cleaner directly onto the screens, as this can lead to streaks.

If you have Invisi-Gard screens

Strong detergents and abrasive cleaners MUST NEVER be used to clean your Invisi-Gard Security Screens as these may scratch or damage the surface finish and increase the likelihood of corrosion. Invisi-Gard screens should be washed down with a soft-bristled brush using warm mains water and a mild detergent.

By following these steps, you can keep your security screens looking like new. Regular cleaning will keep the dirt and dust away and ensure that your security screens remain in top condition.

What is the difference between a screen door and a security door?

If you’re looking to upgrade the security of your home, you may be wondering about the difference between a screen door and a security door.

While these two doors have similar purposes—to keep pests, dirt, and debris out of your home—they differ significantly in terms of security. A screen door is typically made of wood or metal, and is designed with a mesh screen to allow air and light to pass through while blocking out insects and other pests.

Screen doors are designed primarily to provide ventilation and airflow, while also providing a minimal amount of security. As such, they should be used along with a locking mechanism, such as a deadbolt or latch, to ensure that your home remains secure.

On the other hand, a security door is designed specifically for security. These doors are typically made of metal and reinforced with deadbolts and locks to provide added protection against intruders.

Security doors also come with additional features, such as peepholes, motion sensors, and alarm systems, to provide additional layers of protection.

If you’re looking for a security door, we always recommend using INVISI-GARD. Anything less than marine grade 316 High Tensile Stainess Steel Wire is a lesser product than Invisi-gard.

Backed by an unbeatable 15 year warranty, you have peace of mind that your Invisi-gard product is going to last. And if you are curious as to the kinds of damage Invis-gard screens can withstand, check out the video testing series

In summary, screen doors offer minimal security and are designed primarily to provide ventilation and airflow, while security doors are designed with additional features to provide maximum security. If you’re looking to upgrade the security of your home, a security door is the way to go.

Can you fit pet doors to Invisi-Gard?

Pet doors are great aren’t they? It means our pets can move freely in and out of the house, but there is one question that still remains unanswered: Can you fit a pet door to your security screen and maintain the level of security in your home?

The nuts and bolts of it

Yes, pet doors can physically be installed into an Invisi-Gard product but it is important to understand that in doing so, the Invisi-Gard door will no longer be classed as a security door.

According to the National Security Screen Association the installation of a pet door into a security screen will mean that the door is no longer compliant to Australian Standards and does not meet the AS 5039.

According to Invisi-Gard:

“Pet doors are a great idea for the comfort of your pets and the pet owner. But how secure are they? Once a pet door is installed into any security window or door, including Invisi-Gard, it can no longer be classified as a security product. This is because the opening created for your pet to pass in and out of, exceeds the maximum allowable aperture in the infill material (stainless mesh) nominated under AS1539-2008. It is now classified as a barrier door and the Invisi-Gard 15 year standard warranty still remains for the 316 stainless steel mesh.”

When considering a pet door for your home, it is important to determine the level of security you require for you home, and how a pet door may compromise that.

What kind of Security Screens and Doors do I need?

This all depends on how much security you’re after. If you’re simply looking to keep bugs out a flyscreen door may be all you need.

Commonly in FNQ, the standard fitting to new homes is the aluminium screens and doors with the diamond grille pattern which offers some level of security to your home, especially if fitted by an experienced installer who will fit them tight and secure them correctly.

Standard aluminium screens and doors work well for keeping out the bugs and enabling you to keep your windows and doors open for maximum air-circulation during the harsher summer months but don’t offer much in the way of security for your home.

For optimum security the Invisi-Gard products, when installed by a Licensed Dealer (like SIMCRAFT) meets all of the requirements for Security Doors and Windows as determined by Australian Standards.

Invisi-gard is an outstanding product and extensive testing has been conducted to show it is superior when it comes to security, element exposure and even energy efficiency.
